Introduction to Asana Tasks

For a full list of Asana terminology definitions, visit the Asana Glossary article.

My Tasks

Finding Your Tasks in Asana is as simple as 1, 2, 3!

  1. Set your favorite view from the options across the top: List, Board, or Calendar.
  2. Go to the My Tasks tab on the top left menu bar when you open Asana.
  3. Click into your tasks to find more information or to go to the projects in which they are assigned.

You may also edit your tasks’ information. On any given task you may:

  • Re-assign it to another assignee
  • Adjust the due date
  • Add it to an existing project
  • Edit or add details in the description
  • Write a comment to begin discussion with other collaborators. (Be sure to “@” anyone you’d like to chat with in the comment thread.)
  • Add collaborators to the task

Creating Tasks for Others

Creating Tasks for other Team Members is super simple!

  1. Select the “Create” button on the top left of the Asana Home screen.
  2. Write an intuitive task title and add any relevant information to the description section.
  3. Edit the task’s assignee and due date. You may also add this task to an existing project by making your project and section selection. (If the project field does not appear, press Tab+P on your keyboard and make your selections.) Add collaborators as needed.

If you like keyboard shortcuts, you can also create a new task using TAB-Q.

Tip: If you’re already viewing an existing Project, simply select a task (line item) in a section, press “Enter” on your keyboard, and a blank task will appear. You may add details to this new task here directly as well. The new task will automatically be included in the open project and section.
